IB Career-Related Programme

• High Level Courses (HL) - Sports Exercise and Health Science 

  • 240 hours of class/lab time required

  • Course meets both semesters Junior and Senior year

  • Must enroll as a Junior

• Standard Level Courses (SL) - Business and Management

  • 150 hours of class/lab time required

  • Course meets both semesters of Junior or Senior year

  • Students enrolling in IB certification will take SL Courses their Senior year

  • SL courses are offered Junior or Senior year to any MHHS Student

• The Core - IB CP four components - Personal and Professional Skills

  • Personal and Professional Skills Course (PPS)

    • 90 hours of class/lab time required, additional classroom hours in PPS class time will serve as scheduled time for all of  “The Core” hours requirements

    • Students enrolling in IB certification will take PPS Junior and Senior year

    • PPS is offered Junior or Senior year to any MHHS Student 

  • Service Learning - a teaching method that combines academic learning with community service to help students develop skills and knowledge in real-world situations - 50 Hours required 

  • Language Development - Students will have access to a language course or program that will assist and further their understanding of different perspectives and cultures. Students complete a language portfolio - 50 Hours required

  • Reflective Project - an in-depth piece of work that focuses on an ethical dilemma related to the students career-related studies. The project, worked on in PPS over Junior and Senior year, can be submitted as a written essay of up to 3000 words, or an essay with additional format such as short film, presentation, interview, or display and 1000 words of reflection. - 50 hours required

• Career Related Courses

  • Students enrolling in IB certification are required to take one career related course a year that is offered through the Career and Technical Education(CTE) Department.

  • A list of qualifying courses will be available to students enrolling in the certification program

    • Career Related CTE Courses at MHHS

    • Career Related Youth Apprenticeship

    • Career Related courses offered through International Baccalaureate and Mount Horeb Area School District approved partnerships. These courses can only be enrolled in through the IB certification program once all Mount Horeb High School career related courses have been completed.

• International Baccalaureate Exams:  The International Baccalaureate exam scores that are required for college credit vary by university or college, but generally, a score of 4 or higher is required to earn credit.  Exams are taken the last semester of an HL or SL course and scored on a scale of 1-7.  

• IB Exams and College Credits:  Typically Colleges and Universities in Wisconsin will give 3-6 credits for a score of 4 or higher in a High Level course.   Some Wisconsin Colleges and Universities in Wisconsin will give up to 3 credits for a Standard Level course with a score of 4 or higher. There is new legislation before the UW system to establish credits for SL courses with a score of 4 or higher.  

Scheduling Note: Students enrolled in the Certification Program must complete all aspects of the IBCP program.  However students who are interested in certain IB courses may take courses as long as they enroll for HL courses their Junior year and can enroll in PPS or SL courses Junior or Senior year.  Students enrolled in the IB Certification Program will have priority scheduling for their IB courses.
